RO Membrane Tape Length Calculator
This RO membrane tape length calculator estimates how much outer-wrap tape each spiral-wound element needs — from its outer diameter and the number of wraps, with scrap allowance.

Estimate Your Tape Requirement
Pick an element size (or enter a custom outer diameter) and set the wraps. The result updates instantly.
Outer-wrap length = circumference (π × outer diameter) × wraps. Add central-tube or extra tape in the “extra” field. Default 2 wraps, scrap 5% — editable.
Estimate only. Confirm exact quantities with WECOME before ordering.
The Formula Behind the Calculator
Outer-wrap tape follows the circumference of the finished element, repeated for the number of wraps:
Plan All Your Consumables Together
Tape is one of several consumables per element. Pair this with the glue consumption calculator, and check the right product against the tape material data sheet.
To roll the whole bill of materials into one list, use the element BOM calculator, and see where taping sits in the production workflow.
Tape on an element
- Outer-wrap tape (this tool)
- Central-tube tape (add as extra)
- Match adhesion to your process
- Consistent tension for a clean wrap
Tape Is Cheap — Until It Stops the Line
A small consumable, but the wrong amount or grade affects both cost and the finished element.
Running Short
Too little tape mid-batch interrupts the wrapping step and the whole line waits.
Wrong Grade
Tape with poor adhesion or stretch gives an uneven wrap and inconsistent diameter.
Excess Waste
Over-ordering without a real scrap figure quietly adds to consumable cost.

Tape Length Calculator FAQ
How much tape does one RO membrane element need?
For outer wrap alone, a 4040 element at two wraps needs roughly 0.65 m of tape, and an 8040 around 1.3 m, before central-tube taping. Use the calculator above with your finished outer diameter and wrap count for a closer figure.
How is RO membrane tape length calculated?
Multiply the element circumference (π × outer diameter) by the number of wraps, add any central-tube or extra tape, then add a scrap allowance. The calculator does this automatically and totals it for a batch.
What tape is used to wrap RO membrane elements?
Spiral-wound elements use an outer-wrap (bonding) tape and central-tube tape. The grade affects adhesion, stretch and the finished diameter — see the tape material data sheet for specifications.
How many wraps of tape should I use?
Two wraps is a common default for outer wrap, but it depends on your tape, element size and process. Set the wrap count in the calculator to match your standard so the estimate fits your line.
