RO Membrane Element BOM Calculator
Generate a model-specific bill of materials for 4040 or 8040 spiral-wound RO membrane elements. Select the element format and batch quantity to calculate membrane sheet, spacer, permeate carrier, adhesives, fiberglass and assembly parts.
Calculate Materials for a 4040 or 8040 Batch
The two element formats use different material consumption and size-specific components. Choose the correct model first, then enter the number of finished elements you plan to produce.
| Raw material | Model / specification | Per element | Batch requirement |
|---|
For 100 standard 4040 ULP elements, the baseline BOM requires 1,000 m of RO membrane sheet, 550 m of permeate carrier, 500 m of feed spacer and the model-specific parts shown above.
Why 4040 and 8040 Need Separate BOM Recipes
An 8040 industrial RO element is not a simple label change from a 4040 element. It uses a larger membrane pack and substantially more permeate carrier, feed spacer, polyurethane adhesive, bonding tape, epoxy resin and fiberglass.
The calculator therefore selects a complete model-specific recipe before multiplying each line by batch quantity. Piece-count components also switch to the matching 4040 or 8040 SKU, preventing the wrong tube, grille cap, connector or brine seal from entering the purchasing list.
Key recipe differences per element
- RO membrane sheet: 4040 uses 10 m; 8040 uses 40 m.
- Permeate carrier: 4040 uses 5.5 m; 8040 uses 21.5 m.
- Feed spacer: 4040 uses 5 m; 8040 uses 20 m.
- PU glue: 4040 uses 0.25 kg; 8040 uses 1.2 kg.
- FRP materials: epoxy and fiberglass also increase for 8040 production.
A BOM Estimate Is the Start of Production Planning
Use the calculated quantities to prepare an RFQ or internal material plan, then verify the actual element recipe, process allowance and packaging requirements with your engineering and purchasing teams.
Membrane Brand and Width
Sheet pricing and usable length depend on the selected membrane flat sheet and production recipe.
Process Allowance
Add confirmed start-up loss, trimming loss and safety stock outside the baseline BOM.
Component Compatibility
Confirm central tube, cap, connector and brine seal drawings before ordering size-specific parts.

RO Membrane Element BOM Questions
What is included in the 4040 and 8040 RO membrane element BOM?
The baseline BOM includes RO membrane sheet, central tube, two grille caps, one connector, one brine seal, permeate carrier, feed spacer, PU glue, membrane bonding tape, epoxy resin, fiberglass, one membrane label and one membrane bag.
Why are the 4040 and 8040 material quantities different?
The 8040 element has a larger membrane pack and outer structure. Its workbook recipe therefore uses more membrane sheet, permeate carrier, spacer, adhesives, bonding tape and fiberglass than the 4040 recipe, as well as different size-specific component SKUs.
Does the batch requirement include scrap or purchasing allowance?
No. The table multiplies the confirmed per-element BOM directly by the number of finished elements. Add start-up loss, trimming loss, process allowance and safety stock only after confirming them with your production team.
Does this calculator estimate raw material cost?
No. The source BOM does not contain approved unit prices, and membrane sheet pricing depends on brand and specification. Use the calculated quantities as an RFQ list, then apply current supplier quotations.
