How much membrane sheet does one 4040 or 8040 RO element need?
Using the worksheet defaults, a 4040 element with 8 m² effective area and a 0.83 factor requires about 9.64 m² of flat sheet. An 8040 element with 37 m² effective area and a 0.87 factor requires about 42.53 m². Adjust the effective area to match your approved element design.
How is predicted permeate flow calculated?
The calculator converts effective membrane area from square metres to square feet using the worksheet factor of 10.8, then multiplies that area by the entered flat-sheet flux in GFD. The result is a planning estimate in GPD and m³/day, not a finished-element performance guarantee.
Why is actual sheet usage higher than effective membrane area?
The 0.83 factor for 4040 and 0.87 factor for 8040 account for the difference between effective membrane area and the total flat sheet entering the production recipe. Glue lines, folds, sealed edges and process layout do not all contribute to active filtration area.
How is membrane leaf cutting length estimated?
Estimated actual sheet area is divided by the number of membrane leaves and the entered roll width. The result assumes a consistent rectangular cutting layout; confirm the final cut length against your drawings, glue-line dimensions and machine settings.
Can this calculator be used for household RO membrane elements?
No. This version is intentionally limited to 4040 and 8040 industrial spiral-wound RO membrane elements and applies the model factors provided in the production worksheet.
