How It Works

Two Glues, Two Jobs

RO element production uses two different adhesives, so the calculator estimates each separately:

PU glue = Membrane sheet area × PU rate  |  Total = PU + Epoxy
Polyurethane (PU) seals the glue lines when rolling the membrane, so its use scales with membrane area (about 30 g/m² by default). Epoxy resin is used for the fibreglass overwrap on industrial elements (4040, 8040) — household elements use a tape overwrap and no epoxy, so that figure is 0 for them. Both values are editable; set them to your measured consumption for the most accurate result.

Glue Consumption FAQ

How much glue does one RO membrane element use?

For the membrane rolling, polyurethane glue use scales with membrane area at roughly 30 g/m², so a 4040 element uses about 280 g of PU. Industrial elements also use epoxy resin for the fibreglass overwrap. Use the calculator above with your own rates for a closer figure.

What glue is used to make RO membrane elements?

Two adhesives are used: polyurethane (PU) glue seals the glue lines when rolling the membrane, and epoxy resin is used for the fibreglass overwrap on industrial elements. They do different jobs and are estimated separately.

Do household RO elements use epoxy resin?

No. Household elements such as 1812 and 2521 use a tape overwrap rather than a fibreglass-and-epoxy overwrap, so they use PU glue only. The calculator sets epoxy to 0 for those sizes.

How is glue consumption calculated?

PU glue is the membrane sheet area multiplied by a glue rate in grams per square metre. Epoxy resin is added as a per-element figure for industrial overwrap. Both are summed per element and multiplied by quantity for the batch total.
